3G stands for 3rd generation. In our case it is 3rd generation mobile phones. 3G was first introduced in Japan in October 2001. In 2004 it was launched in South Africa. 3G is one of the latest technologies to be incorporated into mobile devices today. Data and information can be accessed at almost any time and from any place by the use of this technology. iPhone use this technology as it allows simultaneous use of speech and data services and higher data rates up to 14 mbps. 3G provides a great value offer for mobile broadband (in Danish the term is: mobilt bredbånd) lovers. 3G is also called the next generation or upcoming era of mobile network. 3G networks offer a greater degree of security than 2G.

3G is also referred to as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System). IT offers a wide range of applications. Some of them are Mobile TV, Video Conferencing, Tele-medicine, Location Based Services (GPS), and Video on Demand. Due to the enhanced data rates 2Mbps bandwidth availabilities these applications are mainly made possible. These phones made it quite easy to Surf mobile internet (in Danish the term is: mobilt internet); to watch movies or to view pictures of the people on is talking to. This technology provides cell phones to offer a high-speed Internet surfing, great data and good video and quality music services.



GPRS and iPhone 3GS serve similar functions but there is a vast difference between 3G and GPRS. 3G offers a faster data transfer rates which is the prior difference among these technologies. This enables a person to work faster. Speed up to 384kbps makes 3G approximately much faster than a dial-up connection approximately 7 times. The main advantage of 3G is that it supports multimedia data applications like video conferencing. 3G allows people to do what they are doing now but they can do it a much faster and from almost anywhere which makes it much better.

As 3G is being incorporated into mobile devices across the globe. A person is constantly online on iPhone with 3G so it is a tough task to guess the applicable charges. Just sit back and relax because you have to pay only for the amount of information you receive or send instead of how much time you are connected to a network. That means you will be charged only on how much data you transmit or receive. Some people think 3G is a waste of money for governments, carrier companies, consumers, and applications developers alike while other believes that 3G, wireless networks is viable and necessary, Using 3G technology users are now able to access data and information at much higher data transfer rate. They are now able to download data much frequently and can perform such other tasks they never imagined possible.
